Hey there! When taking photos of my decorated sugar cookies, I like to choose props that look good, have practical use, and can later be used as home decor. Props can help with scale, reinforce your brand’s identity, add color, texture and patterns, fill in empty spaces, and improve the composition.
Buying props that can be used repeatedly can save money in the long run. Think about props that can suit various photoshoot themes. Also, having a collection of go-to props simplifies the preparation process for photoshoots. Here are my top 6 photo props for cookie decorating photos.
1. Serving Boards: Boards are available in wood, marble, and ceramic, and they offer a timeless and versatile aesthetic appeal. With their elegant surfaces, they can add texture, warmth, and sophistication to your photos and create visually stunning compositions. Not only do they look great in photos, but they are also practical in your daily life. You can use them to host a charcuterie soirée, plate delectable desserts, or add them as background to styling your shelves and counters. Serving boards are truly multi-functional and provide an elegant and sustainable addition to your home decor. Whether you prefer the natural or polished look of wood, the classic elegance of marble, or the artisanal charm of ceramic, these boards can instantly enhance the style and presentation of your baked goods. So why not give them a try and see how they can transform your photos and everyday life?
2. Garlands: Used as a backdrop, to frame your subject or as a stylish prop, garlands bring elegance to your compositions. Their true magic, however, lies in their adaptability. Once your photoshoot is complete, these beads can find a new purpose as functional decor elements in your home. My favorite way to reuse them is inside bowls on shelves or elegant table centerpieces.
3. Cooling Rack: The elevated design of cooling racks provides depth and dimension to your photographs, creating an eye-catching visual area that highlights your cookie creations. Beyond their aesthetic value, cooling racks serve a practical purpose in the kitchen. So, when your photography session is over, these props effortlessly transition into their functional role in your baking endeavors.
4. Disco Balls: Disco balls aren’t just for dance floors anymore! They can actually be a super cute way to show off your decorated sugar cookies in photos. Plus, they’re not just for special occasions – you can incorporate them into your everyday decor to add a playful touch to any space. Whether you hang them on wreaths, display them in bowls, or even use them as centerpieces, disco balls are a timeless addition that will never go out of style.
5. Ribbon and Yarn: They come in a variety of textures, and colors that can perfectly complement the intricate designs of your desserts. A simple ribbon can add a touch of elegance and whimsy, making your desserts look even better in photos. Plus, you can use these ribbons for other things like decorating gift packages, party favors, or even festive wreaths and crafts. This isn’t only a great way to enhance the aesthetics of your photography, but it also promotes sustainable and creative decor solutions.
6. Baking Supplies: Rolling pins, cookie cutters, sugar, eggs, mixers, trays, measuring spoons and cups, parchment paper, and jars are all fantastic props to use. They add a sense of craftsmanship and creativity to your cookie images, highlighting the artistry behind each masterpiece. These props can easily be transitioned back to your kitchen once the photo shoot is complete, ready to help you create even more delicious confections.
Investing in reusable photo props offers a range of valuable benefits for photographers and content creators. Make sure you find props that work for your style, branding, and themes. Don’t forget to browse our Instagram and website for more inspiration.
